„Waits brand of schmaltz is pitched somewhere between Randy Newman´s Marie and West Side Story´s Somewhere, so it makes sense that he should have opened Blue Valentine with a wonderfully gruff version of the latter. Elsewhere, piano is scarce, with Waits playing electric guitar on six songs.
