Rezension

»Johnny Cash Is Coming to Town« wurde ursprünglich im April 1987 veröffentlicht und war Johnny Cashs erstes eigenes Album bei Mercury Records (nach dem Gemeinschaftsalbum Class Of '55 mit Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis und Roy Orbison).

Das Album enthält die Titel »Sixteen Tons«, zuvor ein Hit für Tennessee Ernie Ford, und »The Big Light«, einen Elvis Costello-Song aus seinem Album King of America. Das Album erreichte Platz 36 der US Billboard Country-Charts, während die einzige veröffentlichte Single, »The Night Hank Williams Came to Town«, auf Platz 43 kletterte.

Die LP-Wiederauflage enthält zum ersten Mal remasterte Tonspuren, wobei die originalen Mercury-Masterbänder verwendet wurden. Die Neuauflage der LP ist auf 180 g Vinyl gepresst, um höchste Qualität und Klangtreue zu gewährleisten.
