17er des Projekts von Wooden Shjips-Gitarrist Ripley Johnson. Gefällt mir noch besser als zuvor! Mehrfach charakteristisch ist der Kontrast zwischen bunten sirrenden/schillernden und mächtig sägenden Sounds sowie (eh fast allgegenwärtig hier) konsequent stoisch-repetitiven Elementen. Ebenfalls des Öfteren zu hören: Tolle effektübersprudelnde diesmal auch längere Gitarrentrips. 2 von den 7 (bis 10-minütigen) Stücken punkten mit gewaltig upgedateten Einflüssen von Hawkwind (in stürmisch), 2 andere vermischen, ebenfalls modernisiert (mal mehr mal weniger), Spacemen 3- und Suicide-Ideen plus farbenprächtige Psychedelic Pop-Anleihen (die Vocals z.B.), auch das höchst effektiv. Und weitere 2 Tracks frönen einem Modern Psyche in mal stark mal dezent heavy (u.a. als quasi spacy Granitblock). Der 7. schließlich vereint manisches Stakkato, einen Hauch Suicide und Electro Wave, Pop-Anteile, etwas Noise sowie ein brillantes Psychedelic-Solo der Gitarre. Wie schon beim Vorgänger dachte ich auch hier sporadisch an Velvet Undergrounds Sister Ray. Wer Psychedelia abseits der reinen Lehre goutiert: Eine dicke Empfehlung! (dvd)

Meaning all things magick and supernatural, the root of the word occult is that which is hidden, concealed, beyond the limits of our minds. If this is occult, then the Occult Architecture of Moon Duo's fourth album - a psychedelic opus in two separate volumes released in 2017 - is an intricately woven hymn to the invisible structures found in the cycle of seasons and the journey of day into night, dark into light.  Offering a cosmic glimpse into the hidden patterning embedded in everything, Occult Architecture reflects the harmonious duality of these light and dark energies through the Chinese theory of Yin and Yang. In Chinese, Yin means "the shady side of the hill" and is associated with the feminine, darkness, night, earth. Following this logic, Vol. 1 embraces and embodies Moon Duo's darker qualities _ released appropriately on February 3, in the heart of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
