Out of the blue...Überraschung für alle Fans von Dream Syndicate, Green On Red, Rain Parade und natürlich Steve Wynn.
Dieses Soloalbum war zwar in den späten 90ern aufgenommen, erschien allerdings nie offiziell, nur als vinyl-on-demand in Kleinstauflage. Für alle die das damals nicht mitbekommen konnten. Hier die erste offizielle Veröffentlichung (vinyl-only).
Sweetness and Light verbindet den psychedelischen Pop der Beatles und The Byrds aus den 60er Jahren mit der Punk-Intensität von Gruppen wie The Velvet Underground und The Kinks. Das Album fängt auf magische Weise die furiose Intensität von Wynns Konzertauftritten ein und verbindet sie mit der brillanten, poporientierten Produktion von Wynn und John Agnello. Agnello hat bereits an Alben von Dinosaur Jr. und Patti Smith gearbeitet. "I honestly think this is my best sounding record and a lot of the credit has to go to John Agnello," , so Wynn. Das Album folgt demselben Konzept wie Melting in the Dark von 1996, auf dem Steve Wynn den von Rückkopplungen durchtränkten, psychedelischen Rock erforscht, der sein Markenzeichen bei Dream Syndicate war und ist. Das Album ist zwar nicht so heavy wie sein Vorgänger, bietet aber eine größere Bandbreite an Sounds und eine ganze Reihe gut arrangierter Songs.

The album's kicks off with the adrenaline-pumping air travel nightmare of Silver Lining and never looks back. The title track pushes off Linda Pitmon's powerful cadence and lands in the swirling guitar-drenched insanity of Ray Davies' Strange Effect. Eerie keyboards float in the background to This Deadly Game making Wynn's vocals even more haunting. Sweetness and Light is an album that is full of cleverly crafted pop tunes that will immediately capture your attention and repeatedly bring you back for more.
