20er des Projektes von Sofyann Ben Youssef, ein ziemlich überraschendes. Hier steht nicht eine hochmoderne Verarbeitung nordafrikanischer (arabischer) Traditionen im Vordergrund, auch sind die Grooves nicht so stark westlich/Club-beeinflußt (mit 2 Ausnahmen). Geblieben ist die Verbindung von Synth/Electronics/Rhythm Box mit traditionellem Instrumentarium. Das aber stammt diesmal aus Indien! Eine indische Oboen-Art, Flöte, diverse Percussion (in Kombination mit Electro-Beats, manchmal sogar diese dominierend), eine Stab-Zither (der Sitar nicht ganz unähnlich klingend). Dementsprechend die Prägung der Songs (Süd-Indien speziell, ich vermeine aber auch ein paar pakistanische Elemente zu hören, selbst doch wieder nordafrikanische Überbleibsel manchmal) samt Rhythmik (die sich aus komplexeren Polyrhythmen aus alten Zeiten speist, wie auch straighteren oder einer Art Ethno-Groove, in einem Fall westlichem Dancefloor pur), v.a. Melodik und Gesang (gern weiblicher, generell Inder/innen, wie fast ausschließlich auch die Musiker). Die moderne Komponente variiert in ihrer Stärke, sporadisch wirkt die Musik gar beinahe archaisch, auffällig sind die vielen vielen repetitiven Tendenzen (vom Gesang, vom Synthie, oder von anderen Instrumenten), die einhergehen mit einer faszinierend hypnotischen Note! Ein auch innerhalb der Tracks mehrfach ausgesprochen variables Album mit einigen spirituellen Anklängen, meist mittel-lange Stücke, gefällt mir ausgezeichnet! Auf Glitterbeat. (dvd)
