Die Band ging aus ehemaligen Musikern von Damnations TX, Decemberists, Minus 5 und Richmond Fontaine hervor. Geprägt werden The Delines von der bewundernswerten Damnations-Sängerin Amy Boone, die schon richtig gut ist. Soulful, warm und ein bisschen dunkel, dazu immer ausgeruht und mit lässiger Deepness gesegnet. Dazu passt auch der subtile Band-Sound, den ich mal etwas verkürzt als Soul mit Pedal Steel beschreiben will. Prägendes Instrument sind aber die Tasten: mal dezent im Hammond-Sound, meistens aber als sehr cooles, souliges Fender Rhodes-Piano präsent. Insgesamt klingt die Band schlank und luftig, der Vibe ist Americana, der Sound aber wie gesagt fast schon Soul teils sogar mit sehr guten, unaufdringlichen Bläsern. Aber ganz ohne Schweiß und allzu exaltierte Emotion. Country-Elemente sind am Verschwinden, lediglich die Gitarre setzt pointierten Twang. Auf Christophs Referenzen stieß ich beim Hören ebenfalls recht schnell: Cowboy Junkies und Dusty Springfield. Gemma Ray möchte ich noch ergänzen. (Joe Whirlypop)

Led by vocalist Amy Boone (The Damnations, TX), Cory Gray on keyboards, & horns, Tucker Jackson (The Minus 5) on pedal steel, as well as former Richmond Fontaine members: Sean Oldham, Freddie Trujillo, and Willy Vlautin. Vlautin, the acclaimed novelist and songwriter for Richmond Fontaine, has penned all ten tracks. Recorded in Portland, Oregon and produced by John Morgan Askew, The Imperial shows us again why songwriter, Willy Vlautin became so enamored with Amy Boone"s voice. The combination of Vlautin"s songs and Boone"s voice creates a late night country soul world full of hopefulness and heartbreak.
