Überwiegend sixtiesseliger bis zeitloser Rock mit herrlich perlenden Gitarren und prächtigen mehrstimmigen Vocals. Teils sanft und entspannt (Richtung Kings Of Convenience, The Clientele), oft aber auch härter rockend dann fast wie eine knackige und jüngere Version der Byrds oder auch The Church. Beides funktioniert sehr gut, die Songs sind eher zeitlos mit Tendenz zum Vintage- und Roostrock, durchaus auch indiepoppig und ziemlich dynamisch, teils richtig hart riffend. Dazu eingängig und angenehm klar strukturiert. Manches erinnert an kalifornische Bands wie Allah-las oder Growlers, selten auch mit milde psychedelischer Note. Die Band stammt aus Portland, Oregon und besteht aus Leuten, die bereits bei Hochkarätern wie Guided By Voices, The Decemberists, Stephen Malkmus und Elliott Smith gespielt haben. Diese reife Erfahrung hört man dem Eyelids-Sound deutlich an. Vor allem die Gitarrenarbeit von gleich drei Saitenzupfern ist vorzüglich und das Produktionsdesign makellos was bei einem derart prominenten Producer-Team nicht wundert, standen hier doch REMs Peter Buck (auch als Musiker dabei), Tucker Martine (Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Neko Case) und Heba Kadry (Deerhunter, Bjork) am Mischpult. Dieses vierte Album der Eyelids sollte bei Freunden von klassischem Americana-Rock also offene Türen einrennen. (Joe Whirlypop)

On The Accidental Falls Portland, Oregon's Eyelids, one of rock's best-kept secrets, step firmly out from the considerable shadow cast by the band members' second-to-none pedigrees earned from time spent in Guided By Voices, The Decemberists, Stephen Malkmus and Elliott Smith's bands. Produced by REM iconoclast Peter Buck who also plays on the record with Tucker Martine (Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Neko Case) and Heba Kadry (Deerhunter, Bjork) who mixed and mastered the record respectively. The Accidental Falls features a bountiful cacophony of gorgeously shimmering riffs and songs so delectably crafted that all who value the electric guitar (three to be exact) as a source of pure joy. Created with long time members, Jonathan Drews (guitar), Jim Taltstra (bass) and Paulie Pulvirenti (drums), Eyelids' fourth album finds the outfit as both stewards of a classic sound (Alex Chiltonites and disciples of early REM or later XTC will fall hard for this project) and accomplished artists propelling their craft to thrilling new heights. Their first record was released in the UK by Tim Burgess and the band toured the UK previously with their friends, Drive-By Truckers.
