Überraschend vielfältige/abwechslungsreiche Stücke am Fließband. Zum Beispiel: Abgehackter messerscharfer Post Punk im Wechsel mit intelligentem Indie Pop samt schöner Gitarrenfigur und leicht elegischer Auflösung. „Garage Art Punk“ (?) mit Überraschungen, Breaks, kurzen Temposchwankungen, Gitarrenaussetzern. Zeitloser sowohl Synth- als auch Guitar-getragener rhythmisch (und textlich) spannender Indie (Neo-Prog?) Rock. Die Wiedergeburt des Feelings des frühen New Wave, einmal mit kantig-treibender reizvoller Rhythmik inklusive einiger Härte und Dynamik, ein anderes Mal in ständiger Bewegung samt exaltiertem Kurz-Solo und markanten Riffs, oder auch starke Kontraste, gute Melodien, leicht experimentelle und enervierende sägende Sounds in einem wie in den späten 70ern. Minimalistischer Indie Rock/Pop ohne Rhythm Section unter gewisser Spannung sowie irgendwie auch lyrisch, gleichzeitig kurz noisig. Und mehr (beispielsweise ein unaufhaltsamer fast suggestiver Drive, oder ein klasse Refrain, der nur einmal, dafür aber langgestreckt auftritt). Tatsächlich eine Band mit dem gewissen Etwas, werde ich im Auge behalten. (detlev von duhn)

Building their own bizarre universe out of Portland, Oregon, The Macks announce their new album "Bonanza" (DevilDuck Records). The news of the album rolls out in the form of two new singles and videos: "Dually of Man" and "The Modern Grape". Described by the band as "a collection of miscellaneous rock that could only have been crafted by this dedicated and bull-headedly sincere troupe of desperate artists," The Macks are coming unglued but are fully in their pocket. Founded in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, The Macks are brothers Josef (drums) and Ben Windheim (guitar), Sam Fulwiler (vocals), Jacob Michael Perris (keys) and Aidan Harrison (bass).
