Spannende Hervorbringung aus der finnischen Heavy- und Avantgarde-Musikunterwelt (was es nicht alles gibt): Das Debütalbum von Haunted Plasma erscheint beim verlässlichen Svart-Label und bietet eine eigenwillig modernisierte Variante von Psych- und Spacerock.

Das Trio besteht aus Musikern der mir natürlich unbekannten Bands Oranssi Pazuzu, K-X-P, Grave Pleasures und Aavikko und bietet hier fünf teils sehr lange Songs, deren Basis analog-elektronische Beats sind (also Drum Machine und Sequencer), über die dann flächige Postpunk/Darkwave/Postrock/Stoner/Noise-Gitarren gelegt werden. Der Gesang (von wechselnden Gast-Vokalist*innen) ist eher nicht so wichtig und erinnert teils an 80er Jahre Gothic Bands. Die Kombination aus synthetischem (aber hart rockendem) Rhythmus und schlierig-psychedelischer Gitarrenmacht funktioniert hervorragend. Der neunminütige Opener überzeugt mit epischer Klangwucht und den wunderbaren Gitarrensounds von Bands wie Fields Of The Nephilim, die mir hier mehrfach in den Sinn kommen. Aber auch Killing Joke höre ich dank des gewissen Quantums Pathos heraus - interessanterweise aber auch die dunkle Seite der späteren Massive Attack. Es gibt aber auch Vocoder-Vocals und kleine Dub-Echos. Der finale 13-Minüter entwickelt sich mit krautig-fiebrigem Groove zu einem wachsenden Strudel aus psychedelisch kreisenden Synthies und hartriffenden Stromgitarren von steinerner Anmut. Überzeugendes Debüt der innovativen Finnen freue mich immer sehr, wenn eigentlich recht streng formatierte und definierte Genres wie Psychedelic Rock ihre Grenzen erweitern. (Joe Whirlypop)
