3. Werk des Frauen-Duos aus Los Angeles, die letztes Jahr eine gemeinsame LP mit den Flaming Lips (Deap Lips) rausbrachte. Im Kern natürlich ein Rock-Album, aber recht variabel und mit einigen „Wow-Effekten“, tollen Stücken. Wenn sich z.B. Punk mit 60´s-Fuzz-Garage und irgendwie außerweltlichen Backing Vocals/Chören mischt. Oder feinst verzerrtester roher Power-Groove-Garage-R´n´B/Blues. Oder eine spooky Ballade (die einzige) jenseits von allen Konventionen. Daneben ein mächtig ansteckender agiler Power-Pop-Post-Motown-Mix, seltsam vertrackte aber attraktive Rhythmen, 70´s-Pop- und Hard Rock-Elemente mit zeitgenössischem und 60s-Einfluß vermengt, die Black Keys (mit denen sie eh manchmal verglichen werden, auch von White Stripes war schon die Rede) im High Energy-Modus (oder: Garage-R´n´B in verstörend aktualisiert), frühe Hip Hop-Verweise und mehr überraschende Kombinationen, auch punktuell (dezente!) Spritzer von u.a. Riot Grrrl-Sounds, Queens Of The Stone Age. Jede Menge Grooves, hoch offensive Vocals, dreckige Gitarren, hier und da Orgel (Synths?), Piano, Streicher. Ein paar Riffs klauen sie aus den 70ern, in freilich mehr oder weniger radikal abweichendem Kontext. Es gastieren u.a. Peaches, KT Tunstall, Leute von Warpaint, The Kills. (detlev von duhn)

DEAP VALLY, the Los Angeles-based duo comprising Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards, will release their magnificent third album, MARRIAGE, via Cooking Vinyl. The LP release follows the band's recent acclaimed EPs, Digital Dream and American Cockroach, and is previewed with the new single, Magic Medicine. MARRIAGE follows the success of Deap Vally's acclaimed 2013 debut, Sistrionix, and 2016's Femejism, as well as the band's 2020 LP with Flaming Lips as Deap Lips, a hook-up which fired up the band's passion for collaboration, a passion that has continued through the band's recent EPs on songs with artists including Peaches, KT Tunstall, Jennie Vee (Eagles of Death Metal), Jamie Hince (The Kills), Savages, Warpaint and more. From these incredible collaborative projects, the seeds of MARRIAGE were sown.
