Dieser Sound packt mich doch immer wieder: schwere Fuzzguitar-Riffs in klassischer Black Sabbath-Tradition, der harte Rock aber nicht ausschließlich nach 1970 klingend. Sondern bei allem Traditionsbewusstsein milde modernisiert. Das liegt weniger an den doch recht konventionellen Songstrukturen als vielmehr am ungewöhnlichen Gesang. Der ist in etwas höherer Tonlage als üblich angesiedelt, angenehm klar und gänzlich frei von allem Macho-Rockröhren- und Heldentenor-Protz, was ich schon sehr erfreulich finde. Also das Gegenteil von stereotypem Growling, eher in Indie-/Postpunktradition wie einst bei Dinosaur Jr., wo Mascis ja auch mit recht dünner Stimme für spannende Kontraste sorgte. Ein wenig wirkt es, wie wenn halt einer in der Band auch singen muss und gerade daraus das Eigenständigkeitsmerkmal entsteht. Okay, es gab schon vorher Bands aus der Stoner- und Vintage-Metal-Ecke die Ähnliches versucht haben: vor allem die grandiosen Tweak Bird fallen mir ein. Hier geht das Konzept jedenfalls wieder auf und man erreicht eben nicht nur in Ehren ergraute Metaller und kiffender Desert Rock-Veteranen, sondern dank nicht zu leugnendem Coolness-Faktor hoffentlich auch ein jüngeres Publikum. Die Band kommt aus Norwegen und haut mich mit ihrem Debütalbum wirklich um. Die Gitarrenriffs sind von dreckiger, tonnenschwerer Präzision, die Beats sind heavy, die Vocals absolut einnehmend. Kleine Breaks sorgen auch mal für psychedelische Momente, Midtemponummern für melancholische Heavyness. Macht insgesamt ein komplett eigenständiges Genre-Highlight, das eben nicht wie alle anderen mir sympathischen, letztlich aber oft austauschbaren Stoner Rocker klingt. (Joe Whirlypop)

Slomosa from Bergen is one the great rock bands from Norway the last few years. Bringing desert rock from what is probably the least desert country in the world, Norwegian rockers Slomosa are due to release their 5th vinyl edition of their highly popular and regarded self-titled debut album. The three singles and album have so far amassed about 4 million streams and counting - and with their music's international reach the band has managed to gain a following in countries such as USA, Germany and Sweden, making the band "Norway's new shooting stars of huge rock", as music blog The Obelisk aptly puts it. Joined by a love for the rock scenes of the past, the band has made a name for themselves with their heavy and catchy sound, dubbed "tundra rock" by the band itself.
