26er. Die Band aus Alabama fand ich vom Start weg klasse, das hat sich nicht geändert. Schon diese Charakterstimme (die mehrfach mit Chris Stapleton verglichen wurde, naja, eher entfernt), emotional stark, manchmal etwas klagend, mühelos die Stimmungen wechselnd… „Wondering Way“ war in den USA vor 2 Jahren ein ziemlicher Hit, die Band bekam verdientermaßen recht viel Aufmerksamkeit, wurde diesmal von Dave Cobb prominent produziert. Mittlerweile haben sie sich noch ein bisschen weiter von ihren ursprünglichen Country-Roots entfernt (ohne die gänzlich aufzugeben), zu Gunsten von Roots Rock in verschiedener Färbung/Ausprägung, R´n´B/Soul-Einflüssen, Folkelementen, einer Prise Gospel (mehrfach, aber eher tief drinnen, nicht offensiv), Blues. Und eben immer noch (Red Dirt) Country-Spuren, Outlaw-Feeling. Das alles ganz tief im Süden verankert, bis hin zu klassischen Southern Rock-Tendenzen, aber mit eigener Note. Und ein offensichtliches ausgeprägtes Traditionsbewusstsein. Balladesk (ein bisschen kraftvoller wie mit feinerem Strich und leicht malend) wie rockend (oder mal ein dezentes Rock´n´Roll/Sun-Flair), einige rhythmische Variationen in den jeweiligen Stücken (samt plötzlichen oder allmählichen Intensitäts-Steigerungen, damit arbeiten sie gerne), und teilweise eine packende Atmosphäre. Einzelne Tracks erinnern mich an The Band, Little Feat, Allman Brothers, einmal gar den guten Joe Cocker um 1970 rum. Klare Empfehlung! (detlev von duhn)
