Miraculous Mule besteht aus dem ehemaligen Dream City Film Club-Frontmann und von der Kritikgefeierten Solokünstler Michael J. Sheehy, der Miraculous Mule beschreibt als "eine Gruppe von Anglo-Irischen Honkies, die aufafroamerikanischen Gospel, Gefängnis-/Arbeitslieder undHinterwäldlermusik stehen."
Das Maultier ist ein vierköpfiges Biest mit gleich drei Leadsängern: Sheehy, Alex Louise Petty und Patrick McCarthy, der auch den Bass spielt und dem Tier zusammen mit Schlagzeuger Ian Burns die Sporen gibt.
Sheehy fährt fort: "Obwohl wir abtrünnige Katholiken, Agnostiker und Ungläubige sind, die vor vielen Monden gestrauchelt und in die Tiefen der Hölle gefallen sind, glauben wir aufrichtig an die Kraft dieser Musik und daran, wie sie uns und unser Publikum fühlen lässt."
Nach zwei Alben mit eher heftigem Garagen-Rock mit psychdelischen Blues-Ausflügen kehrt die Band zum Sound ihrer Debüt-10“ (damals noch auf Stag-O-Lee) zurück. Wieder angekommen bei ihrer Liebe zum frühen Blues, Gospel, Field Recordings und Folk hat die Band eine rohe, zurückgenommene und leidenschaftliche Platte gemacht.
Old Bones, New Fire enthält von Michael Sheehy geschriebene Songs, sowie von der Band arrangierte Klassiker wie O' Death oder John The Revelator. Uns persönlich erinnert das stark an die Vee-Jay der Staple Singers aus den späten 50ern. Ein Klassiker!

Miraculous Mule consists of former Dream City Film Club frontman and critically acclaimed solo artist Michael J. Sheehy, who describes Miraculous Mule as "a group of Anglo-Irish honkies who are into African-American gospel, prison/work songs and hillbilly music."
The Mule is a four-piece beast with three lead singers: Sheehy, Alex Louise Petty and Patrick McCarthy, who also plays bass and spurs the animal along with drummer Ian Burns.
Sheehy continues, "Although we are apostate Catholics, agnostics, and unbelievers who stumbled and fell to the depths of Hell many moons ago, we truly believe in the power of this music and how it makes us and our audience feel."
After two albums of heavy garage rock with psychedelic blues excursions, the band returns to the sound of their debut 10” (then on Stag-O-Lee). Reconnecting with their love of early blues, gospel, field recordings and folk, the band has made a raw, understated and passionate record.
Old Bones, New Fire includes songs written by Michael Sheehy as well as classics arranged by the band such as O' Death or John The Revelator. Personally, this reminds us a lot of the Vee-Jay of the Staple Singers from the late 50's. A classic!
