Sie formten Waits' Ruf des vagabundierenden, exzentrischen und trinkfreudigen Sonderlings. Alle Werke bringt Anti-Records jetzt hochwertig remastert neu heraus.

„Waits brand of schmaltz is pitched somewhere between Randy Newman´s Marie and West Side Story´s Somewhere, so it makes sense that he should have opened Blue Valentine with a wonderfully gruff version of the latter. Elsewhere, piano is scarce, with Waits playing electric guitar on six songs. If Romeo Is Bleeding and Wrong Side Of the Road sound tired, the harsh blues of A Sweet Little Bullet From A Pretty Blue Gun hints at the rougher-edged Waits to come.“ (Mojo)
