Viertes Album des innovativen Jazz-Duos aus Bristol, diesmal teilweise mit Gesangsverstärkung durch Annie Gardiner (die Tochter von Ricky Gardiner, der einst die Gitarre bei Iggy Pops „The Passenger“ gespielt hat) sowie einem Streichquartett. Ansonsten verlassen sich Saxophonist Andrew Neil Hayes und Schlagzeuger Matt Brown aber auf das bewährte Zusammenspiel, stilistisch offen in alle erdenkbaren Richtungen. Ich höre satte Brass-Riffs a la Art Ensemble Of Chicago meet Black Sabbath, aber auch ätherisch abgehobene Minimal Music. Ob im Breitwand-Format oder ganz schlank inszeniert: Genre-Kategorien helfen hier nicht weiter und ich glaube eigentlich nicht, dass es hier wirklich um Jazz geht. Mit den kühl verhallten Vocals (bei drei Songs) geht die Reise eher in Richtung Wave-Atmosphäre, aber auch der psychedelische Soul der Budos Band und sanfte elektronische Soundscapes sind möglich. Das teils entfesselte Sax überschreitet auch mal die Grenze zum freien Jazz und die Dynamik der beiden ist schon enorm das Powerplay im Duo macht auf ansteckende Weise Spaß, wie auch die ebenso zahlreichen spirituellen Momente. Bristolian power-improv duo Run Logan Run continue their link-up with Worm Discs and producer Riaan Vosloo on Nature Will Take Care Of You - a monumental slab of contemporary energy music that draws on the heavy soul of David Axelrod and the fiery commitment of Archie Shepp. Working with an expanded line-up that includes singer Annie Gardiner (daughter of the late guitarist Ricky Gardiner, who played and collaborated with Iggy Pop and David Bowie) plus a string quartet and a brass section, saxophonist Andrew Neil Hayes and drummer Matt Brown have once again steered Run Logan Run in a dramatic new direction. Churning, future-forwards and emotionally tuned in, Nature Will Take Care Of You reaches out towards propulsive rock and psychedelic soul, while keeping one foot in the radical jazz-not-jazz of Bristol"s ever fertile improv scene.
